Rising Star Jo Jaeze Shares Joy Over Chart-Topping Debut

Actress Han Ye-seul has achieved a partial victory in her lawsuit against health food brand Next Player regarding unpaid advertising fees. On May 21, the Seoul High Court's Civil Division 37-3 ruled that Next Player must pay Han's agency, High Entertainment, 660 million KRW, affirming the first trial's decision. 

In April 2022, Han Ye-seul and her agency signed a contract with Next Player to serve as the advertising model for their health food brand, committing to a total of 22 appearances, including four video shoots and four print shoots. The agreed model fee was set at 1.415 billion KRW, to be paid in two installments. The contract stipulated that if any advertisement featuring Han was used, the full model fee would be payable.

However, Next Player only paid the first installment of 715 million KRW in May and June 2022, followed by a partial payment of 55 million KRW from the second installment in March 2023, totaling 770 million KRW. 

In response, Han's agency filed a lawsuit for the unpaid second installment. Next Player countered that the agency had delayed video shoot schedules and failed to fulfill social media posting obligations, claiming this justified their intention to terminate the contract and avoid paying the second installment. 

The first trial concluded that there was insufficient evidence to support Next Player's claims of non-cooperation from Han's agency, deeming their contract termination attempt invalid. The court noted that the agency's request for a change in concept due to scheduling conflicts and Han's COVID-19 illness could not be attributed to the agency's fault. 

The court also stated that since advertisements featuring Han had been used, the lack of additional shoots was likely due to the non-payment of the second installment, affirming that Next Player was obligated to pay it. 

Next Player appealed the first trial's ruling, but the appellate court upheld the original decision. 

In other news, Han Ye-seul registered her marriage with her 10-year younger partner, actor Ryu Seong-jae, in May of last year. She has since been sharing glimpses of her daily life through social media and YouTube.

배우 한예슬이 건강식품 브랜드 넥스트 플레이어를 상대로 한 광고료 미지급 소송에서 부분 승소를 거두었다. 5월 21일, 서울고등법원 제37-3민사부는 넥스트 플레이어가 한예슬의 소속사인 하이엔터테인먼트에 6억 6천만 원을 지급해야 한다고 판결하며 1심의 결정을 확정했다.

2022년 4월, 한예슬과 그녀의 소속사는 넥스트 플레이어와 계약을 체결하고 건강식품 브랜드의 광고 모델로 활동하기로 하였다. 계약에는 4회의 영상 촬영과 4회의 인쇄 촬영을 포함하여 총 22회의 출연이 포함되었다. 합의된 모델료는 14억 1천5백만 원으로, 두 차례에 걸쳐 지급되기로 하였다. 계약서에는 한예슬이 출연한 광고가 사용될 경우 전체 모델료가 지급되어야 한다고 명시되어 있었다.

그러나 넥스트 플레이어는 2022년 5월과 6월에 첫 번째 분할금 7억 1천5백만 원만 지급하였고, 2023년 3월에는 두 번째 분할금의 일부로 5천5백만 원을 지급하여 총 7억 7천만 원에 그쳤다.

이에 한예슬의 소속사는 미지급된 두 번째 분할금에 대해 소송을 제기하였다. 넥스트 플레이어는 소속사가 영상 촬영 일정을 지연시키고 소셜 미디어 게시 의무를 이행하지 않았다고 반박하며, 이는 계약 해지 의사를 정당화한다고 주장하였다.

1심은 넥스트 플레이어의 비협조 주장에 대한 증거가 부족하다고 결론지으며 계약 해지 시도가 무효라고 판단하였다. 법원은 일정 충돌과 한예슬의 COVID-19 질병으로 인한 개념 변경 요청이 소속사의 잘못으로 귀속될 수 없다고 언급하였다.

법원은 또한 한예슬이 출연한 광고가 사용되었으므로 추가 촬영이 이루어지지 않은 것은 두 번째 분할금 미지급 때문일 가능성이 높다고 밝혔으며, 넥스트 플레이어가 이를 지급할 의무가 있다고 확인하였다.

넥스트 플레이어는 1심 판결에 항소하였으나, 항소 법원은 원심 결정을 유지하였다.

SEVENTEEN Celebrates 10th Anniversary with Special Event at Jamsu Bridge

Hyoyeon of Girls' Generation recently showcased her DJ skills at a special event in Hollywood, California, alongside producer Lee Soo Man. On May 24, she shared several photos and videos on her social media, captioning them with "Party." The footage features Hyoyeon, known as DJ HYO, performing at a rooftop party in Los Angeles. Lee Soo Man, the former chief producer of SM Entertainment who created Girls' Generation, joined her at the DJ booth, where they were seen playfully dancing together, much to the delight of attendees.

In another clip, fellow Girls' Generation member Tiffany can be seen blowing a kiss to Hyoyeon while Sunny, another member and Lee Soo Man's niece, smiles brightly beside her.
