MBC's 'Good Day' Pauses Broadcast Amid Controversy Surrounding Kim Soo-hyun

MBC has announced that the upcoming episode of 'Good Day' (굿데이), produced by Kim Tae-ho (김태호) and featuring G-Dragon (지드래곤), will not air this week. The network released a statement on March 20, 2025, indicating that the sixth episode, originally scheduled for March 23, will be postponed for program reorganization. During this time slot, a special episode of 'I Live Alone' (나 혼자 산다) will be broadcast instead, and MBC has requested viewers' understanding.

While the network cited 'program reorganization' as the reason for the hiatus, some speculate it may be related to the editing of segments featuring actor Kim Soo-hyun (김수현), who has recently faced allegations regarding his past relationship with the late Kim Sae-ron (故 김새론). The family of Kim Sae-ron has claimed through the YouTube channel 'Garo Sero Research Institute' (가로세로연구소) that the two were in a relationship from the time she was 15 years old, raising concerns about grooming. They also alleged that Kim Soo-hyun pressured them to repay a loan of 700 million KRW after Kim Sae-ron's involvement in a drunk driving incident in 2022 led to her career halt.

In response, Kim Soo-hyun's agency, Gold Medalist (골드메달리스트), labeled the claims as 'clear falsehoods' and stated they are considering legal action against the spread of misinformation. However, they later acknowledged that Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Sae-ron dated from the summer of 2019 until fall 2020, after she became an adult.

Despite the controversy, Kim Soo-hyun participated in the recording of 'Good Day' on March 13, and his appearance was noted in the episode that aired on March 16, prompting viewer criticism. Following the backlash, the production team released a statement on March 17, acknowledging the seriousness of the situation and emphasizing their commitment to prioritizing viewer feedback. They explained that 'Good Day' is pre-recorded weeks in advance due to translation processes for international broadcasts.

The production team also clarified that the March 16 episode had to be edited in haste to remove Kim Soo-hyun's segment, resulting in a shorter runtime and less detail than usual. They expressed regret for any distress caused to fans of the show.

Looking ahead, the team has decided to minimize Kim Soo-hyun's appearances in future episodes, with plans to edit out his segments from the March 13 recording. They concluded by assuring viewers that they will strive to create a program that brings joy and reflects the sentiments of all participants involved.
