MBC Weathercaster Oh Yoo-anna's Tragic Death Raises Concerns Over Workplace Bullying

The tragic passing of MBC weathercaster Oh Yoo-anna has sparked renewed attention and sorrow as allegations of workplace bullying emerge. Recently, a post titled "Oh Yoo-anna's Wrist Condition 15 Days Before Her Death" circulated across various online communities, drawing significant interest.

The post features footage of Oh Yoo-anna delivering weather forecasts from August 26 to 29 of the previous year, during which she was seen wearing a bandage on her left wrist. This was not the first time she had been observed with her wrist wrapped in previous broadcasts. Oh Yoo-anna conducted her final broadcast on September 6 and sadly passed away on September 15.

Active as a weathercaster at MBC, Oh Yoo-anna's sudden death in September 2022 was not publicly known until three months later. Her family revealed that she had been subjected to bullying by senior weathercasters, leading her to seek psychiatric help at over ten different facilities and leaving behind 17 letters.

In response to these allegations, MBC announced the formation of an investigative committee led by external experts to uncover the truth behind Oh Yoo-anna's death. The committee will include multiple external professionals, including legal experts, to ensure a fair and objective investigation. MBC also stated that they have been conducting an internal investigation since the allegations surfaced and will provide all preliminary investigation materials to the committee to facilitate a thorough inquiry. They expressed their commitment to uncovering the facts and supporting the grieving family.

Oh Yoo-anna, born in 1996, graduated from the Department of Creative Writing at Seoul Institute of the Arts. She entered the entertainment industry in 2017 as an idol trainee after passing an audition with JYP Entertainment. She was later selected as a contestant in the 39th Chunhyang Festival but ultimately began her broadcasting career after passing the MBC weathercaster recruitment exam.
