MBC Cancels Entertainment Programs Following Tragic Airport Incident
MBC has announced the cancellation of several entertainment programs, including 복면가왕 (King of Mask Singer), in light of the tragic accident involving a passenger plane at Muan International Airport. The network has also scrapped the photo wall event for the 2024 MBC Broadcasting Entertainment Awards, which was scheduled for 7 PM on December 29. While the awards ceremony will still proceed as planned, discussions are ongoing regarding whether it will be broadcast live or recorded. Earlier in the day, the MBC variety show 출발! 비디오 여행 (Start! Video Travel) scheduled for 12:10 PM and 복면가왕 (King of Mask Singer) set for 6 PM were also canceled, replaced by emergency news coverage. The incident occurred at approximately 9:07 AM when Jeju Air flight 7C2216 attempted to land and crashed, colliding with the runway's outer wall. According to the fire department, there were 181 individuals on board, including 6 crew members, 173 South Korean passengers, and 2 Thai passengers. As of now, the death toll stands at 80, with 35 men and 45 women confirmed deceased.
