Mass Protests and Memorials Held in Seoul on June 21

On Saturday, June 21, various gatherings and memorial events took place across downtown Seoul. In Gwanghwamun, Jongno District, public sector labor unions, including the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (한국노총) and the Korean Public Service and Transport Workers' Union (민주노총), held a rally demanding better treatment for public institution workers. Approximately 10,000 participants (according to unofficial police estimates) gathered, chanting slogans such as 'Guarantee Labor Rights'.
At Seoul Station, a memorial event was held to mark the first anniversary of the Ariasel fire disaster that occurred last June. Around 300 family members and citizens attended, participating in a memorial service led by representatives from Buddhism, Protestantism, and Catholicism, while blue flowers were laid in honor of the victims. The organizing committee emphasized the need for accountability and the effective enforcement of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act.
The progressive group 'Candlelight Action' organized a rally near Acro Vista in Seocho-dong, calling for the arrest of former President Yoon Suk-yeol and his wife, Kim Keon-hee. Simultaneously, conservative YouTubers gathered in front of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office to hold a counter-rally discussing President Lee Jae-myung's ongoing trials.
Additionally, a gathering organized by the Liberty Unification Party and Pastor Jeon Kwang-hoon took place in front of the Donghwa Duty-Free Shop in Jongno, where participants voiced demands to 'Eliminate Election Fraud'.
