Man Charged with Murdering Family of Five in Yongin

A man in his 50s, identified as A, has been formally charged with the murder of five family members, including his elderly parents, wife, and two daughters, in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. According to the Suwon District Prosecutor's Office, A was indicted on May 12 for the crimes of murder and parricide.
The incident occurred on April 14 in an apartment located in the Suji District of Yongin, where A allegedly killed his 80-year-old parents, his wife in her 50s, and his daughters in their teens and twenties. Following the murders, he fled to Gwangju, where he was apprehended by police early on April 15.
Investigations revealed that A had mixed sleeping pills into yogurt and fed it to his family, taking advantage of their unconscious state to commit the murders. A handwritten note found at the scene indicated his intention to end his own life after the killings.
Reports suggest that A had been under significant stress due to financial difficulties related to a private apartment sales business, which had been struggling. He was reportedly under investigation for fraud related to this business. In his statements to authorities, A expressed that he was overwhelmed by debt and did not want to burden his family with his financial troubles.
