Man Arrested for Vandalizing Presidential Election Banner in Busan

On May 13, a man in his 50s was apprehended by the Busan Western Police for allegedly vandalizing a presidential election banner. The suspect, identified as A, is accused of tearing down a banner for Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party's presidential candidate, which was displayed near Jagalchi Station on the Busan Metro Line 1 in the Chungmu-dong area on the morning of May 12. Following reports of the vandalism, police tracked down A through CCTV footage and investigative inquiries. Under the Public Official Election Act, damaging election posters or banners can result in a prison sentence of up to two years or a fine of up to 4 million won. A police spokesperson noted that the act appeared to be a result of anger, and they plan to forward the case to the prosecution once their investigation is complete.
