Man Arrested for Stalking and Murder in Daegu

A 48-year-old man, referred to as A, was arrested on June 16 for the murder of a woman he had been stalking in Daegu. The presiding judge at the Daegu District Court's Western Branch, Seo Young-ae, issued a warrant for A's arrest, citing his flight risk and lack of a permanent residence following the crime.

A appeared for a pre-arrest interrogation at the court around 1:40 PM but declined to answer questions from reporters regarding his motives or any messages for the victim's family.

The incident occurred on June 10 at approximately 3:30 AM, when A allegedly killed a woman in her 50s, identified as B, with a knife in an apartment in Daegu's Dalseo District. After the attack, A fled the scene in a vehicle belonging to an acquaintance and traveled to Sejong City, where he took a taxi to a mountain area near his father's grave.

Despite extensive search efforts by the police, which included personnel, search dogs, and drones, A managed to evade capture for several days. Authorities in Sejong City even advised residents to avoid outdoor activities due to concerns over potential criminal activity linked to A.

A was finally apprehended on June 14 at around 10:45 PM after he made a call from a payphone to a friend, revealing his location. He was arrested near a container warehouse in Jochiwon-eup, where he had arranged to meet the acquaintance.

During police questioning, A admitted to the crime, stating that he had descended from the mountains to 'sort everything out' due to mental exhaustion. Notably, A had previously threatened B with a knife in April, leading to police involvement. Although a warrant for his arrest on charges of special intimidation was requested, it was denied by the court at that time, citing A's cooperation with the investigation.

Despite protective measures, including the installation of security cameras at B's apartment entrance, A managed to enter the building by climbing the gas pipes while wearing a mask. Reports indicate that A's motive for the murder stemmed from B's refusal to meet with him.
