Man Arrested for Setting Car on Fire, Killing His Wife

On June 11, 2025, the Chungnam Hongseong Police announced the arrest of a 61-year-old man, referred to as A, for allegedly murdering his 58-year-old wife, B, by setting their car on fire. The incident occurred on June 2 at approximately 8:22 PM near a reservoir in Hongseong County.
Prior to the act, A reportedly mixed a sleeping pill into his wife's antidepressant medication and then ignited charcoal briquettes inside the vehicle, intending for both of them to die. However, A managed to escape the car while B was trapped inside and perished in the flames. A sustained minor burns and received treatment at a hospital.
During police questioning, A confessed to the crime, stating that his wife had been battling depression for a decade and had recently shown severe delirium symptoms, leading him to believe they should die together. He claimed that while B did not agree to die, he administered the sleeping pill to her. Investigators found that A had purchased the materials for the crime online a week prior and had searched for secluded locations, including 'quiet reservoirs,' on his phone.
