Man Arrested After Stabbing Ex-Girlfriend in Daejeon

A man in his twenties was apprehended by the Daejeon Western Police Station on July 30, 2025, after allegedly stabbing his ex-girlfriend, a woman in her thirties, to death. The suspect, identified as A (in his 20s), was captured around 11:45 AM in a underpass in the Jung-gu district of Daejeon, approximately 24 hours after the incident. Reports indicate that A attempted to ingest poison in his vehicle just before his arrest but was conscious when taken into custody and was subsequently transported to a hospital.
The tragic event occurred on July 29 at approximately 12:08 PM in a residential area of Goejeong-dong, Daejeon, where A is accused of fatally stabbing B (the victim) with a knife. The police are currently monitoring A's condition while investigating the motive behind the crime and the route he took to escape.
Authorities confirmed that A and B had been in a romantic relationship, which had ended recently, based on a mobile phone A left at the crime scene. The police also reached out to A's family and acquaintances to trace his whereabouts. It is believed that A visited B's residence before committing the crime, and investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to track his movements. During his escape, A reportedly switched between a car and a motorcycle.
The Daejeon Police Department deployed over 150 personnel from various units, including detectives and crime prevention teams, to assist in the search for A.
A had a history of police encounters related to his relationship with B, having been investigated four times since November of the previous year. He was previously reported for property damage and trespassing, and just days before the stabbing, he was charged with obstructing police duties after assaulting B outside a convenience store while under the influence of alcohol. Although the police had offered B a smartwatch for her safety, she declined the offer and submitted a document stating she did not wish to pursue charges against A.
A police spokesperson noted that B had not cooperated with victim investigations and had expressed a desire not to press charges, despite the police's attempts to contact her three times for crime prevention purposes, which she did not respond to.
