Legendary Singer Im Lee-ja Announces Final Concert

On March 5, at the Stanford Hall in Mapo-gu, Seoul, a press conference was held for Im Lee-ja's tribute concert titled '맥을 이음' (Connecting the Pulse). The event featured performances and discussions with fellow artists Joo Hyun-mi and Jo Hang-jo.

Im Lee-ja is set to hold her final concert on April 26 and 27 at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in Jongno-gu, Seoul. This concert will showcase her beloved hits from her 66-year career, performed live for her fans.

The concert is particularly special as it reflects Im's deep respect and affection for traditional Korean music, and she will share the stage with younger artists who will carry on this musical legacy.

During the press conference, Im hinted at her retirement, stating, "In the entertainment industry, the term 'retirement' is often used, but I have avoided it because I find it too hasty. However, I believe it is time for me to confirm that this will be my last performance."

She expressed her commitment to preserving the roots of traditional Korean music, saying, "I have dedicated much research to ensure that our traditional songs do not fade away. I am grateful to have found such strong successors to continue this legacy."

Im reflected on the struggles of past generations who found solace in music during difficult times, emphasizing the importance of remembering these songs. "I have always felt that traditional music represents the flow of time, and it pains me to see it at risk of disappearing. I have made it my mission to keep these songs alive on stage," she shared.

As she prepares for her final performance, Im Lee-ja feels a sense of fulfillment, knowing that she can pass on her legacy to the next generation of artists. "While I have often thought that my era would end with me, I now feel a sense of happiness knowing that I can leave this legacy behind," she concluded.
