Lee Young-ae Reflects on Reunion with JSA Cast After 25 Years

On February 4, 2025, a special screening and audience talk for the film 'Joint Security Area' (공동경비구역 JSA) was held at CGV Yongsan I-Park Mall in Seoul, celebrating CJ ENM's 30th anniversary. Actress Lee Young-ae shared her feelings about reuniting with her co-stars after 25 years, stating, "I was nervous before coming here, but now I think to myself, 'I should have attended gatherings like this more often.'"

The film, directed by Park Chan-wook and released in 2000, provided a human perspective on the realities of division, contributing to a shift in public perception regarding inter-Korean relations. Featuring prominent actors such as Song Kang-ho, Lee Byung-hun, Lee Young-ae, and Kim Tae-woo, the film received critical acclaim. During the event, the cast reflected on the significance of their work together.

Lee Young-ae, who portrayed Swiss Army Major Sophie E. Chang, expressed her initial nervousness about the reunion. She recalled feeling isolated during filming as the only female lead among a predominantly male cast. "Of course, I missed Shin Ha-kyun, but thanks to CJ ENM, we could gather after 25 years. Sharing meals and stories with the cast made me regret not attending more gatherings. It was a warm and grateful time, and I want to convey this feeling to the audience," she said.
