Lee Sun-bin Takes on the Role of 'Noise Fighter' in Upcoming Film 'Noise'

Actress Lee Sun-bin is set to showcase her talent as a 'noise fighter' in the upcoming film 'Noise'. The press and distribution preview for 'Noise' took place on June 16 at the Megabox COEX in Gangnam, Seoul, with Lee Sun-bin, Kim Min-seok, Han Soo-ah, and director Kim Soo-jin in attendance.
Scheduled for release on June 25, 'Noise' is a psychological horror thriller that follows the character Joo-young, who embarks on a quest to find her missing sister amidst the daily disturbances of apartment noise. This film marks the feature debut of director Kim Soo-jin.
Director Kim expressed, "I believe horror is the genre that maximizes the cinematic experience. What made this project particularly appealing was that the protagonist, who is hard of hearing, navigates a world filled with noise. I aimed to blend realistic thrills with supernatural horror through sound."
He also shared his reasons for casting Lee Sun-bin as Joo-young, stating, "When I first met her, she mentioned her love for horror content. I was concerned because many actors, including Han Soo-ah, are not fans of horror films, but Lee Sun-bin even recommended YouTube content, showing her deep understanding of the genre."
This film marks Lee Sun-bin's first venture into the horror thriller genre. She shared, "I've always enjoyed horror. I consume a variety of content, including webtoons, animations, and YouTube, which made me nervous about participating in this project. However, my passion for the genre motivated me to do my best. I realized that horror requires more detailed and challenging performances."
Portraying Joo-young, who struggles to find her sister, Lee Sun-bin noted, "The script's strength captivated me, and the theme of noise is something everyone can relate to. We can all be victims or perpetrators of noise. Joo-young's hearing impairment adds another layer to her character, and I wanted to use that to express her effectively."
Kim Min-seok plays Gi-hoon, Joo-young's sister's boyfriend. He shared his connection to the project, saying, "Noise has been a hot topic in the news lately, so I could relate. When I read the script, I felt the story was solid, and the sisterly narrative had the potential to drive the plot powerfully."
He also discussed his approach to the character, stating, "I aimed to blend into the story without overshadowing it, acting as a lubricant for the narrative flow. I encountered many frightening elements during filming, especially when we shot in a basement filled with trash. It was unsettling to realize we were filming in a real sewage area, which added to the authenticity. I had to take sleep aids at my accommodation because it was so scary."
Han Soo-ah, who plays the missing sister Joo-hee, admitted, "I had never watched a horror film in my life, but I felt I could watch one if I was in it. The script terrified me from the start, but I thought it would be fun to be part of it, so I prepared diligently for the audition. During filming, I worried about sleeping alone at the accommodation, but my fear helped me understand where the scares would come from, making it enjoyable to brainstorm ideas."
In closing, Lee Sun-bin expressed her affection for the project and urged audiences to take notice. She said, "I hope when people think of noise, they immediately think of 'Noise.' I would love for memes related to our film to emerge whenever the topic of noise or horror comes up. I want to be known as the 'noise fighter' in 'Noise.'"
