Lee Soo-geun Reacts Strongly to Disturbing Family Violence Story on 'Ask Anything' Show

On January 20, during the broadcast of KBS JOY's 'Ask Anything' (무엇이든 물어보살), comedian Lee Soo-geun expressed his outrage over a heartbreaking story shared by a 16-year-old girl named Kim Ye-na. She revealed her struggles after her father was released from a one-year prison sentence for domestic violence.

Kim Ye-na shared her troubled upbringing, stating that she was raised by relatives due to her parents' busy work schedules. She lived with her aunt from third to fifth grade and moved back in with her parents in sixth grade, where she experienced severe domestic violence.

She recounted a traumatic incident from when she was seven years old, where her father violently dragged her mother outside by her hair. In fourth grade, during a summer vacation, her father assaulted her mother, prompting Kim and her mother to run away. She described a moment when her mother collapsed after going to the bathroom, nearly dying from a burst appendix, with signs of physical abuse evident.

Despite seeking help, Kim's mother feared repercussions if her father was arrested. After multiple reports to the police, it was ultimately the school teachers who intervened, leading to her father's imprisonment.

Kim revealed that she worked part-time to earn 400,000 KRW a month, which she sent to her father, feeling pity for him despite his actions. Lee Soo-geun reacted strongly, questioning her decision to support her father financially, especially given her mother's anxiety.

He advised Kim to cut ties with her father and to move to a place where he could not find her. Lee Kyung-kyu echoed this sentiment, suggesting that she focus on her education and happiness with her mother instead of maintaining a relationship out of familial obligation.

Kim also mentioned her mother's new boyfriend, whom she hopes will bring happiness to her life. Lee Kyung-kyu encouraged Kim to prioritize her own well-being moving forward.
