Lee Si-young Reveals Second Pregnancy Amid Controversy Over Frozen Embryo

Actress Lee Si-young has recently disclosed that she is pregnant with her second child, having undergone an embryo transfer without the consent of her ex-husband. This revelation has brought renewed attention to her recent appearance on the YouTube show 'Jjanhan Hyung' hosted by Shin Dong-yeob.

On June 23, Lee Si-young joined fellow actors Jung Sang-hoon and Kim Da-som on the show to promote the ENA drama 'Salon de Holmes.' During the episode, she brought her son along, explaining, "Today is the day my aunt is leaving, so I had no choice but to bring him with me. He will be going outside now." Shin Dong-yeob welcomed her son warmly, reassuring him, "Don’t worry. Other aunts and uncles are drinking, but your mom isn’t."

As the recording began, Shin Dong-yeob mentioned that the production team had informed him that while Sang-hoon was fine with drinking, and Da-som enjoyed wine, Lee Si-young would be having non-alcoholic beverages. Lee Si-young laughed and admitted, "I really look like a mess, don’t I?" She expressed her love for alcohol but explained that due to some medical treatment, she needed to refrain from drinking for a while.

Ultimately, she participated in the filming while sipping on non-alcoholic wine. Just two weeks after this episode aired, Lee Si-young announced her pregnancy, prompting viewers to revisit her earlier comments. Many netizens speculated, saying things like, "So that’s why she wasn’t drinking, she’s pregnant!" and "I thought it was strange that she wasn’t drinking."

Before her pregnancy announcement, comments on the video speculating about her being pregnant gained traction, with some users noting, "When someone suddenly acts like that, they’re usually pregnant," and "I have a feeling Si-young is pregnant. Always cheering for you, stay healthy!"

On July 8, Lee Si-young took to Instagram to confirm her pregnancy, stating, "I am currently pregnant." She explained that during her marriage, she had prepared for a second child through IVF. However, time passed without the embryo being transferred, and discussions of divorce began to arise. As her legal matters were being finalized, the five-year storage period for the frozen embryo was approaching, leading her to make a decision.

She shared, "As the expiration date approached, I decided to proceed with the transfer. Although my ex-husband did not agree, I intend to bear the weight of my decision. I simply could not bring myself to discard the embryo that I had stored. I believe that despite the potential challenges ahead, my choice is the more valuable one."

In response, her ex-husband, restaurant entrepreneur Jo Seung-hyun, confirmed through Dispatch that he opposed the second pregnancy but added, "Now that the second child is on the way, I will fulfill my responsibilities as a father. We will discuss and collaborate on the necessary aspects of childbirth and parenting."
