Lee Si-young Announces Pregnancy After Divorce, Making Unprecedented Choice

Actress Lee Si-young has made headlines in the South Korean entertainment industry by revealing her pregnancy following her divorce, a decision that is considered unprecedented. She shared the news on her social media on July 8, stating, "I am currently pregnant. I want to clarify this to prevent any misunderstandings or speculation in the future."
Lee explained that during her marriage, she underwent in vitro fertilization (IVF) to prepare for a second child, but time passed without the embryo being implanted, leading to discussions about divorce. As her legal ties were being finalized, she faced the expiration of a five-year period for the frozen embryo. After much contemplation about whether to discard it, she decided to proceed with the implantation on her own.
She noted, "The other party did not agree, but I will take full responsibility for this decision," adding that she did not want to repeat the regrets she felt after her first child, Jeong-yoon, and that this experience has reaffirmed her understanding of what it means to be a mother.
Lee Si-young's choice challenges traditional norms, as it is highly unusual for someone to independently decide to implant an embryo and pursue pregnancy after a divorce. This case may spark various discussions both within the entertainment industry and society at large.
Lee married businessman Jo Seung-hyun, who is nine years her senior, in 2017 and welcomed a son in 2018. However, they parted ways amicably in March after eight years of marriage.
