Lee Seung Hwan's Gumi Concert Canceled Due to Safety Concerns

The concert of singer Lee Seung Hwan (이승환) scheduled for December 25 at the Gumi Cultural and Arts Center has been canceled due to venue rental issues. Gumi Mayor Kim Jang-ho (김장호) announced this decision during a press conference on the morning of December 23, citing the safety of citizens and attendees as the primary concern.
The cancellation is in accordance with Article 9 of the Gumi Cultural and Arts Center's operational regulations. Mayor Kim explained that he had requested Lee Seung Hwan's team to submit a safety personnel deployment plan by December 20 and to pledge not to engage in political incitement or misunderstandings. However, Lee's legal representative conveyed that they were unwilling to sign such a pledge.
Lee Seung Hwan had previously made political comments during his concert in Suwon on December 14, expressing approval of impeachment, and had performed at a rally in front of the National Assembly on December 13, urging for the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol. Given these circumstances, the Gumi city officials deemed it necessary to cancel the event to prevent any potential physical confrontations.
Despite the cancellation, Lee had previously announced that the Gumi concert was sold out, expressing gratitude to his fans and even to conservative groups for their support.
On December 22, Lee Seung Hwan addressed safety concerns regarding the Gumi concert through his personal channel, urging attendees to avoid engaging with any nearby protests or rallies. He emphasized the importance of safety and requested that attendees maintain a safe distance and refrain from provocative actions.
Additionally, he stated, "If any harm occurs, please let us know," and mentioned that he had requested legal protection for his fans. He encouraged anyone affected by protests or rallies during the concert to contact his legal team, Haemaru Law Firm, for assistance with legal procedures, including civil lawsuits or criminal complaints, assuring that he would cover all related legal costs.
