Lee Seung Hwan's Concert in Gumi Canceled for Safety Reasons

The concert of singer Lee Seung Hwan (이승환), scheduled for December 25 in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province, has been canceled due to safety concerns. On December 23, Gumi Mayor Kim Jang-ho (김장호) announced the cancellation during an emergency press conference held at Gumi City Hall.
The city had previously communicated with Lee Seung Hwan's team regarding safety issues and had unofficially indicated the possibility of canceling the concert. The necessary procedures for canceling the venue reservation have also been completed.
A city official stated, "Given the potential for physical clashes between concertgoers and conservative groups, we concluded that canceling the concert was the only option for safety reasons. The safety of our citizens is our top priority."
Details regarding ticket refunds will be handled through legal representatives in the future.
The cancellation follows protests from several conservative groups who opposed the concert, citing Lee Seung Hwan's public support for the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol (윤석열). On December 19, 13 conservative organizations held a rally in front of Gumi City Hall to voice their opposition to the event.
On December 20, Lee Seung Hwan took to Instagram to express gratitude to fans, noting that the concert was nearly sold out despite the challenging ticket situation. He also urged fans attending the concert to refrain from engaging with any protests planned nearby, stating, "If any harm occurs during the concert, please let us know. We will take legal action to address any damages."
