Lee Seung Hwan Responds After Constitutional Complaint Dismissed

On March 27, 2025, singer Lee Seung Hwan took to his social media to express his thoughts after the Constitutional Court dismissed his complaint against Gumi Mayor Kim Jang Ho regarding the cancellation of his concert last year. Lee stated, "I checked the decision from the Constitutional Court. The sole reason for the dismissal was that there is 'no possibility of repetition.'"
Previously, Lee had filed a lawsuit seeking approximately 250 million won in damages against Gumi City after his concert was abruptly canceled. He also submitted a constitutional complaint naming the mayor as a respondent. The cancellation occurred just two days before the event, with Gumi City citing safety concerns for citizens and attendees.
At the time, Gumi City had requested that Lee sign a pledge not to engage in political incitement or misunderstandings, which he refused. Following the court's decision, Lee expressed his disbelief, stating, "It seems like a concluded matter, and they believe it won't happen again. It's astonishing. Even my lawyers say this is an unusual decision."
He further questioned, "How many times do I have to receive demands for a pledge against political misunderstandings and have my concerts canceled before it is deemed a constitutional violation? This incident was unprecedented, and I was concerned it might happen again at future performances, which is why I filed the complaint."
Lee concluded by clarifying, "The dismissal does not mean that the demand for a pledge is constitutional or that the mayor's decision was correct. I will thoroughly address these issues through civil litigation."
