Lee Min-ho Makes His Variety Show Debut After 16 Years

On December 25, 2024, actor Lee Min-ho made a memorable appearance on tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block,' marking his first variety show in 16 years. During the episode, he shared various anecdotes, including his experience auditioning for the iconic drama 'Boys Over Flowers' (꽃보다 남자).

Reflecting on that time, Lee Min-ho expressed, "I felt I had to succeed; I was very desperate." He humorously recalled, "I went to the audition with curly hair, thinking if I was going to do it, I might as well aim for the lead role."

He noted that he was the only one with that hairstyle at the audition, which surprised the producers and writers. "For me, it symbolized desperation. At a young age, it wasn't a cool look, and honestly, I didn't want to do it. It was tough to live my daily life with that hair," he admitted. He also reflected on how different his life might have been if the show hadn't succeeded.

Lee Min-ho shared that while embodying his character, he often felt a disconnect with reality. He joked, "I would go to Japan to eat udon and release ducks to avoid swimming. I wondered how I could look like a chaebol (wealthy businessperson) and tried to incorporate that into my daily life."

He added, "When I went out for meat with friends, I would grill the meat. I would also act like I didn’t know how to open the taxi door," which elicited laughter from the host, Yoo Jae-suk, who praised Lee Min-ho's storytelling skills, asking, "Why have you only come out now?"

Lee Min-ho also mentioned that he enjoyed it when his friends felt uncomfortable, attributing it to his character. He expressed gratitude towards his friends for helping him perform well.

During the show, he shared a touching story about the hardships he faced while filming 'Boys Over Flowers,' which forced his family to live apart. He expressed deep appreciation and love for his mother, who endured these challenges as the head of the family.
