Lee Jun-seok's Office Raided Again Amid Controversy Over Election Influence

On July 30, the special investigation team led by Kim Geon-hee resumed its search of Lee Jun-seok's (이준석) office located in the National Assembly building in Yeouido, Seoul. This follows allegations of his involvement in the so-called 'Myung-tae-kyun nomination interference' case. Lee's representatives claim that the investigation team conducted an excessively broad search, including searching for unrelated terms like 'Han Dong-hoon' (한동훈), which they argue makes the search illegal.

The search began at 1 PM and was a continuation of an earlier search that had not been completed on July 28. Lee's team pointed out that during the two-day search, investigators attempted to seize materials that were not directly related to the case, including accessing his aides' computers.

Kim Jeong-cheol (김정철), a senior member of Lee's party, held a briefing at the search site, stating, "The investigation team reviewed all work and accounting materials of the aides, confirming items unrelated to the allegations."

In response to the search, Lee's team filed a petition with the Seoul Central District Court to contest the legality of the search. This type of petition allows individuals to request a court to cancel or modify actions taken by investigative agencies. Kim noted that it typically takes about a month for a ruling on such petitions, but he expressed a desire for a swift decision.

Lee is currently under investigation for allegedly colluding with former President Yoon Suk-yeol's (윤석열) administration to influence the nomination of former lawmaker Kim Young-sun (김영선) during the 2022 by-election.
