Lee Jong-goo's Wife Reveals Childhood Abuse on MBC's 'Marriage Hell'

In a recent episode of MBC's 'Oh Eun-young Report: Marriage Hell', Lee Jong-goo's wife opened up about her traumatic childhood experiences, revealing that she faced abuse from a young age. Dr. Oh Eun-young, a specialist in mental health, noted that the wife exhibits deep-seated anxiety and tends to interpret even minor provocations in her relationship as aggressive. She expressed feelings of fear when her husband displays commanding or intimidating behavior.

During the show, the wife recounted how her older brother held the belief that 'women should be disciplined,' which led to painful experiences for her. She shared, 'The broomstick was made of raw wood, and it hurt. My mother would let it happen instead of stopping it, which made me resent her.' She also mentioned that her brother would throw stones at her mother when she tried to intervene.

As they prepared for marriage, her brother questioned her relationship with Lee Jong-goo, and when she expressed feeling unsupported by her parents during wedding preparations, he reacted violently. This history of unresolved trauma has created ongoing tension in her marriage.

Dr. Oh analyzed that when conflicts arise, the husband's momentary anger may trigger memories of her brother's past aggression, leading her to perceive his reactions as attacks. She emphasized that the wife's feelings of being attacked can escalate her anxiety, prompting her to interrupt her husband in an attempt to regain control in the conversation. Even minor outbursts from her husband can be interpreted by her as significant threats to their marriage.

To help manage these dynamics, Dr. Oh advised Lee Jong-goo to practice patience by waiting 15 seconds before reacting in anger. She also recommended that his wife respect his personal space and avoid interrupting him when he is engaged in conversations with others.
