Lee Jae-myung's Name Mentioned 130 Times in Court Ruling, Highlighting His Central Role

In a recent court ruling, the name of Lee Jae-myung (이재명), the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea (더불어민주당), appeared 130 times, underscoring his pivotal involvement in the ongoing legal issues surrounding his associates. Following the sentencing of Kim Yong (김용), a close aide and former deputy head of the Democratic Research Institute, to five years in prison, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon (오세훈) stated, 'The crimes of Lee's proxy are essentially Lee's own crimes.'
Oh emphasized that the illegal funds exchanged during the presidential primary process, attributed to Kim, reaffirm the allegations against Lee. He noted that the court documents clearly indicate Lee's central role in the case, stating, 'The crimes of the proxy are indeed the crimes of the principal.'
However, Oh cautioned that this is merely a fraction of a larger criminal enterprise, referencing ongoing trials related to the Daejang-dong (대장동) and Baekhyeon-dong (백현동) development scandals, as well as the Ssangbangwool North Korea remittance case. He described these issues as serious allegations involving development corruption, organized crime connections, and political manipulation involving North Korea, all of which are unacceptable for someone in public office.
Despite several key aides receiving prison sentences, Oh criticized Lee for maintaining his innocence while aspiring to the presidency, calling it a display of extreme shamelessness. He lamented the situation where a major criminal defendant is revered as the 'father of the Democratic Party,' with a fervent fanbase supporting him, describing it as a tragic comedy.
Oh concluded by asserting that no amount of evasion or denial can erase the crimes committed, and he called for the dissolution of the Democratic Party, which he claims has devolved into a 'bulletproof party' for Lee, fueled by the fervor of his supporters.
