Lee Jae-myung Officially Begins Term as President of South Korea

Lee Jae-myung, the candidate from the Democratic Party of Korea, has officially commenced his term as the 21st President of South Korea. The National Election Commission confirmed his election victory on June 4, 2025, during a meeting held at 6 AM, declaring him the official president-elect following the results of the presidential election.

In this special election, the president's term begins immediately upon the commission's decision. Lee's official term started at 6:21 AM when the commission chair, Noh Tae-ak, struck the gavel, transferring full presidential powers, including command of the armed forces, to him.

Later that morning, around 7 AM, the commission is expected to present the certificate of election to Lee's representative, Park Chan-dae, the floor leader of the Democratic Party, at the government complex in Gwacheon.

Lee secured his victory with 49.42% of the votes, totaling 17,287,513, while his opponents, Kim Moon-soo from the People Power Party and Lee Jun-seok from the Reform Party, received 41.15% and 8.34%, respectively.
