Lee Jae-myung Acquitted of Election Law Violations in Appeal

On March 26, Lee Jae-myung (이재명), the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea (더불어민주당), expressed his thoughts after being acquitted of charges related to violations of the Public Official Election Act during an appeal hearing at the Seoul High Court in Seocho-gu, Seoul. Just a day later, on March 27, the prosecution filed an appeal against the acquittal. The 6-2 Criminal Division of the Seoul High Court, presided over by Chief Judge Choi Eun-jung (최은정), overturned a previous ruling from November of last year, which had sentenced Lee to one year in prison with a two-year probation for allegedly spreading false information during the election campaign.
