Lee Hyori Reflects on Past IVF Comments Amid Recent Controversy

Singer Lee Hyori recently addressed the renewed scrutiny surrounding her past comments on in vitro fertilization (IVF) during the July 8 broadcast of MBC FM4U's 'A Perfect Day with Lee Sang-soon.' She expressed gratitude for her frequent appearances on television but acknowledged that speaking out comes with its own consequences. Lee shared that she feels a heightened sense of responsibility as she ages, leading her to be more cautious with her words.

When her husband and show host Lee Sang-soon jokingly asked how she could reduce her speaking on a talk show, she replied, 'I can't cut down on my words, but I will take responsibility for what I say.' She also noted that there are more people who understand her perspective.

Recently, Lee Hyori appeared on shows like tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block,' hosted by her close friend Yoo Jae-suk, where past slip-ups were discussed in a light-hearted manner. However, her previous remarks from May 2022 on MBC Every1's 'The Oppa at the Tteokbokki House' resurfaced online, where she stated, 'I don't want to rely on medical help like IVF. If it happens naturally, I would be grateful to raise a child.' She mentioned being inspired by a friend who had a child at 58 and expressed her desire to experience a mother's love, while also believing that true love doesn't solely come from having a child.

While most people found no issue with her comments, some netizens pointed out that her words could be insensitive to parents currently undergoing IVF. Lee Hyori married guitarist Lee Sang-soon in 2013, and the couple, who are known for their charitable work, currently do not have children.
