Lee Hyori Opens Up About Her Musical Concerns on 'You Quiz on the Block'

On the special 300th episode of tvN's You Quiz on the Block (유퀴즈 온 더 블럭), aired on July 2, Lee Hyori (이효리), often referred to as a 'cultural icon,' shared her recent struggles. She expressed, "Lately, I've been wondering if I'm progressing musically. I'm still doing commercials and variety shows like before, but I haven't been active in music for a long time. While living in Jeju, I had less interaction with musician friends, but now that I'm back in Seoul, I've even had meetings with a friend from the U.S."

She reminisced about her friendship with the composer and lyricist of her hit song 'Ten Minutes' (텐미닛), saying, "We created a song based on our own stories. A photo from a trip to LA 20 years ago became a topic of interest, and it feels great to have music that reflects that time come back to me."

After moving from Jeju to Seoul last year, Lee Hyori mentioned, "I’ve started learning to sing again. I’ve been in touch with Kim Bum-soo (김범수), Jung In (정인), and Kim Dong-ryul (김동률), and they still train regularly. I wonder why I’m not doing the same? They practice every day!" She even sang songs by Kim Yoon-a (김윤아) and Kwon Jin-ah (권진아) on the spot.

With a remarkable career spanning 27 years, Lee Hyori holds numerous records, including being the first entertainer to receive a tribute advertisement and the first to win both music and entertainment awards. Despite her success, she revealed unexpected feelings of anxiety, stating, "Your love has been a great motivation for me. But I worry that a small mistake could make it all disappear. Sometimes, I fear that the love I rely on could vanish in an instant. I want to do well, but I hope for a little more understanding and love from you all. I promise to give back a lot of love too."

She continued, "For 27 years, I've always been anxious, fearing that love could break. I think I've always craved love. When that love is lost, can I endure it? I feel uneasy. So now, instead of asking for more love, I say I will give more love. Receiving love makes me anxious, but I can give love without reservation." Her heartfelt words resonated deeply with viewers.
