LE SSERAFIM Becomes First K-Pop Girl Group to Win Special International Music Award at Japan Record Awards

On November 21, 2024, the K-Pop girl group LE SSERAFIM (르세라핌), consisting of members Kim Chaewon (김채원), Sakura (사쿠라), Heo Yunjin (허윤진), Kazuha (카즈하), and Hong Eunchae (홍은채), made history by winning the Special International Music Award at the 66th Japan Record Awards (제66회 빛난다! 일본 레코드 대상). This marks the first time a K-Pop girl group has received this prestigious honor.

The Japan Record Awards, organized by the Japan Composers Association, is one of the oldest and most respected music award ceremonies in Japan, having been established in 1959. The Special International Music Award is particularly significant as it recognizes artists who have demonstrated outstanding global achievements, regardless of their country or region.

In a statement released through their agency, Source Music, LE SSERAFIM expressed their gratitude, stating, "We are honored to receive this award at the Japan Record Awards. We thank our fans, FEARNOT, for their unwavering support. We will continue to strive to showcase the unique charm of LE SSERAFIM. Once again, thank you sincerely."

Prior to this accolade, LE SSERAFIM had already garnered trophies at major award shows in the United States and Europe. They won the PUSH Performance of the Year at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards and were honored with the Best Push award at the 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards, further solidifying their global presence.

The group's popularity extends beyond awards, as they have received numerous requests to appear on year-end special programs. LE SSERAFIM is set to perform solo stages at Fuji TV's 2024 FNS Music Festival on December 11 and NHK's 75th Kohaku Uta Gassen on December 31. Notably, this will be their third consecutive invitation to the Kohaku Uta Gassen, a show renowned for its high viewership and cultural significance.

Additionally, LE SSERAFIM will release their third Japanese single, CRAZY, on December 11. The pre-released track, "Star Signs," has already made waves by ranking in the top 5 of real-time charts on LINE MUSIC and AWA on its release day, and it has been selected as the theme song for the year-end campaign of the major fashion shopping center LUMINE.
