Lawsuit Against YouTuber PPKKa Delayed Until Next Month

The lawsuit filed by streamer ‘과즙세연’ (real name: 인세연) against YouTuber PPKKa has been postponed to next month. This decision comes after the court accepted PPKKa's request for a delay. On June 17, the Seoul Central District Court's Judge Lim Bok-kyu rescheduled the first hearing of the 30 million KRW damages claim to July 22, which was originally set to take place today. PPKKa submitted a request for a change of date just four days before the trial, citing difficulties in hiring a lawyer due to the public scrutiny surrounding the case. In civil lawsuits, if a party has appointed a representative, they are not required to attend in person. However, if they do not have a representative and fail to appear, they risk unfavorable judgments. PPKKa, who has 1.1 million subscribers, is known for creating content that mocks celebrities while concealing his identity with a mask. YouTube suspended PPKKa's monetization last year for violating guidelines. In September of last year, 과즙세연 filed a defamation lawsuit against PPKKa. In February, through the discovery process in a U.S. federal court, 과즙세연 obtained approval to reveal PPKKa's identity, which was determined to be a man in his late 30s named 박모 residing in South Korea. PPKKa later submitted a request to suspend the lawsuit proceedings, but it was denied, as specific conditions such as death, bankruptcy, or illness must be met to grant such a request. Following the escalation of the lawsuit, PPKKa ceased posting videos on his YouTube channel.
