Late Singer Wheesung Laid to Rest Amid Tributes from Colleagues

The late singer Wheesung (휘성) was laid to rest on March 16, 2025, at 6:20 AM at the Seoul Samsung Hospital funeral hall in Gangnam, Seoul. The ceremony began with an introduction to Wheesung's career, followed by a heartfelt message from his brother, Choi Hyuk-sung (최혁성). He expressed, "While the physical life of Choi Wheesung has ended, the music and spiritual life of singer Wheesung will live on forever. I believe my brother will remain with us until the day his songs are heard and sung in this world."

Actress Kim Na-woon (김나운) shared her memories, stating, "Wheesung sang at my wedding in 2005, and our connection has continued ever since. It’s beautiful to think that he could sing for us again on our 20th wedding anniversary; he truly is our eternal artist." The president of Wheesung's fan club remarked, "For 23 years, Wheesung gifted us music that brought hope, happiness, and comfort. I feel grateful to have been a fan of an artist who often expressed his regret for not being able to fully convey his love and gratitude to his fans."

After the ceremony, Choi Hyuk-sung encouraged fans to keep Wheesung's legacy alive, saying, "I hope the next generation will listen to his songs. If you hear my brother's music, you will inevitably become a fan. Even in the future, as they hum 'With Me (위드 미),' he will continue to live among us."

Wheesung's casket was carried by fellow artists Ha Dong-kyun (하동균) and Choo Plex (추플렉스), along with family members. On that rainy Sunday morning, Wheesung departed from his fans for eternal rest.

Wheesung was found deceased at his home in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, on March 10. His agency confirmed that he was discovered in a state of cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Initially, the family planned a private funeral due to concerns for Wheesung's mother's health, but they ultimately decided to hold a public memorial to honor the many who loved and remembered him. Following the setup of the mourning hall on March 14, numerous colleagues, including IU (아이유), Lee Hyori (이효리), Kim Taewoo (김태우), and Psy (싸이), visited to share their condolences.

Meanwhile, the National Forensic Service reported that the initial autopsy results indicated an 'unknown cause of death.' In response, Wheesung's team has requested a detailed examination to investigate potential drug use, with results expected in about two weeks.
