Kwon Sang-woo's 'Hitman 2' Reclaims Box Office Top Spot

The film 'Hitman 2', starring Kwon Sang-woo, has successfully regained the number one position at the box office just one day after losing it. The film attracted 31,319 viewers on February 6, allowing it to reclaim its top spot after being overtaken by 'Broken'. With this comeback, 'Hitman 2' is now poised to aim for the box office crown for a second consecutive week, bringing its total audience count to 2.11 million.
This sequel follows the 2020 film 'Hitman', which garnered 2.4 million viewers. The story revolves around Jun, a legendary National Intelligence Service agent who has transitioned to a webtoon artist. As he releases a new webtoon, real-life crimes mirroring his story begin to unfold. The film features returning cast members Kwon Sang-woo, Jung Joon-ho, Lee Yi-kyung, and Hwang Woo-seul-hye, with director Choi Won-seop at the helm once again.
Meanwhile, 'Broken' managed to surpass 'Hitman 2' on its opening day but saw a drop to 22,620 viewers the following day, casting doubt on its weekend box office performance. In terms of advance ticket sales, 'Broken' is currently in second place with approximately 33,700 pre-sales, trailing behind 'Secret That Cannot Be Told', which has around 47,900.
'Broken' is a hardboiled action film that follows Min-tae, a former gangster who embarks on a quest to find the person responsible for his brother Seok-tae's death. The film stars Ha Jung-woo as Min-tae, alongside Kim Nam-gil, Yoo Da-in, Jung Man-sik, and Lim Sun-jae. It is directed by Kim Jin-hwang, who made his debut with 'The Shepherds' in 2016.
In the overall box office rankings, 'Secret That Cannot Be Told' is in third place with 20,055 viewers (totaling 430,000), followed by 'The Black Nuns' in fourth with 15,350 viewers (totaling 1.51 million), and 'Substance' in fifth with 5,217 viewers (totaling 400,000).
