Kwon Oh-jung Remembers His First Meeting with Shin Hyun-joon

On January 27, during the broadcast of Channel A's 'Close Friends Documentary: Four-Person Table,' actor Shin Hyun-joon reminisced about his first encounter with fellow actor Kwon Oh-jung. When asked about their connection, Shin revealed, "Oh-jung was a choreographer for Seo Taiji and Boys. He still dances well today." Kwon added, "I choreographed the music video for 'The One in My Fantasy,'" which caught the audience's attention.
Shin praised Kwon's dancing skills, stating, "He dances incredibly well," to which Kwon responded, "I debuted as a dancer, taking on roles that showcased my dancing abilities." Shin continued, "Even though we are both actors, we become fans of each other. Watching movies, I thought, 'Wow, there’s an Arab character with a different vibe.' I found him very relatable. I heard he was very dedicated, which led to discussions about casting him in the film 'Mr. Kim, the Director.' That’s when we first met."
Kwon explained, "I played the role of a Kung Fu instructor, while Shin portrayed a Taekkyeon instructor." Shin shared, "In my role, I didn’t have much to learn. I just had to shout 'Eolssu!' and the kids would fall over. But Kwon had to perform many complex Kung Fu moves." Kwon revealed, "I reached the third dan in Kung Fu as a child. It was during my acting career that I collapsed while filming due to the intense physical demands."
Shin added, "In group fight scenes with 40 to 50 people, my character wore a mask, so I would give the mask to a stuntman. Kwon, however, had to show his face. He really did collapse during filming. At that time, his character had a curly perm, which suited him perfectly. He was always talking non-stop, unlike the charismatic persona I had seen before, and he was chewing gum the whole time."
Shin then revealed, "I was chewing nicotine gum back then. I’ve quit now, but I couldn’t stop chewing it on set while trying to quit smoking." Kwon humorously recalled, "There he was, with his curly perm and chewing gum, chatting away while hymns played in the background. It was so funny; I still remember it vividly."
