K-Pop Star Wheesung Passes Away, Leaving Behind Timeless Hits

Wheesung (휘성), the beloved South Korean singer-songwriter, has tragically passed away, leaving behind a legacy of unforgettable music. His funeral service is set to take place at 6 AM on March 16, 2025, at the Samsung Medical Center in Seoul. The family has invited fans to join in honoring his memory during this difficult time, with the burial ceremony scheduled for 7 AM.

Debuting in 2002 with his first album 'Like A Movie', Wheesung quickly became a prominent figure in the R&B scene, known for hits such as '안되나요' (Can’t You), '전할 수 없는 이야기' (A Story I Can’t Tell), 'With Me', '다시 만난 날' (The Day We Meet Again), '일년이면' (In a Year), 'I’m Missing You', '결혼까지 생각했어' (I Even Thought About Marriage), '가슴 시린 이야기' (A Heart-Wrenching Story), '너라는 명작' (A Masterpiece Called You), '불치병' (Incurable Disease), '주르륵' (Drip), and '사랑은 맛있다' (Love is Delicious).

In addition to his solo work, Wheesung contributed as a songwriter and composer for various artists, including Gummy (거미), Ailee (에일리), Ali (알리), Wax (왁스), and TWICE. He was celebrated as a leading R&B artist and a trusted singer-songwriter, creating numerous beloved tracks that resonated with fans across the nation. Wheesung also showcased his versatility by performing in musicals, further proving his diverse talents.

On March 10, Wheesung was found unresponsive at his home in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, and was pronounced dead at the age of 43. An autopsy was conducted on March 12 at the National Forensic Service, with preliminary results indicating an 'unknown cause of death'. Detailed test results are expected to take approximately two weeks.

The sudden news of his passing has left fans in shock, many of whom are reflecting on his music and the joy it brought them. A photo of Wheesung smiling brightly serves as a bittersweet reminder of the joy he shared through his art.

The family expressed their desire to create a space for fans to pay their respects, stating, "We believe it is respectful to provide a time and place for those who loved and remembered him as an artist and as a person. We invite everyone who knew him or found happiness in his music to visit and accompany him on his final journey."
