K-Pop Star Wheesung Found Dead with Syringe at Scene

Wheesung (real name Choi Wheesung), the renowned South Korean singer, has passed away, with reports indicating that a syringe was found at the scene prior to an autopsy. The National Forensic Service (국립과학수사연구원) is set to conduct an autopsy on March 12 to determine the exact cause of death, including any potential drug use.
Wheesung was discovered in a state of cardiac arrest at an apartment in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, on March 10 at 6:29 PM, at the age of 43. According to reports from Yonhap News on March 11, police stated that a syringe was located near the deceased at the time of discovery. They found no signs of forced entry or foul play, leading them to request an autopsy from the National Forensic Service.
Born in Seoul in 1982, Wheesung debuted in 2002 with his first album 'Like A Movie (라이크 어 무비)' and became a prominent figure in the R&B scene with hits like 'I Can't', 'With Me (위드 미)', and 'Insomnia (불면증)'. However, he faced legal issues in 2020 after being found unconscious due to the use of a sleep anesthetic, which led to a police investigation and a suspended prison sentence for violating drug laws related to habitual use of propofol.
Following the autopsy, Wheesung's family plans to proceed with cremation without holding a public funeral, inviting only close friends and family. His agency, Tajo Entertainment, expressed that the family is currently in shock and mourning, and they will arrange the funeral once they feel ready. The ceremony will be private, in accordance with the family's wishes.
