A man in his twenties has been fined for breaking into the former dormitory of the girl group NewJeans. On July 23, the Seoul Western District Court, presided over by Judge Kim Min-jung, sentenced 28-year-old Kim to a fine of 10 million won for theft and trespassing. 

Kim was charged with illegally entering the group's previous residence in Yongsan, Seoul, twice in December of last year, where he stole items such as hangers and banners, and filmed the interior to post online. At the time of the incidents, the NewJeans members had vacated the premises after notifying their agency, Ador, of the termination of their contracts in November. 

During the sentencing hearing on June 11, prosecutors sought a 10-month prison term for Kim. He acknowledged all charges but pleaded for leniency, stating that he would care for his ill mother if given a chance to fulfill his dream of becoming a public servant.

A month later, in August 2020, she introduced another amendment to the same law, emphasizing the need for specific penalties for perpetrators of workplace harassment, as the existing laws lacked such provisions, making effective prevention difficult. 

The proposed amendments aimed to hold employers accountable if they failed to take action upon recognizing workplace harassment. Additionally, the bill sought to broaden the definition of workplace harassment to include physical and mental suffering inflicted by third parties on employees. This legislation was referred to in the media as the 'Workplace Harassment Prevention Act.' In June 2020, Kang also co-sponsored a bill aimed at reducing wage arrears. 

However, during the recent confirmation hearing, Kang became embroiled in controversy over allegations of mistreatment of her staff, including directing them to handle personal tasks such as fixing a toilet and disposing of food waste. Initially, Kang denied these claims, stating she had never assigned household chores to her aides. However, transcripts surfaced showing her instructing staff to check for leaks in her home toilet and to take boxes to her district office.

Mr. Bang was accused of colluding with Mr. Kim to provide design technical data from a semiconductor equipment supplier to CXMT, which later successfully developed and mass-produced the 18-nanometer DRAM.
