K-Pop Artists Pay Tribute to Victims of Jeju Air Tragedy During Year-End Concerts

In light of the recent Jeju Air tragedy, K-Pop artists performing year-end concerts have taken time to mourn and remember the victims. Many artists have postponed promotional activities to join in the collective mourning.

On December 29, singer Sung Si-kyung held a moment of silence during his '2024 Sung Si-kyung Year-End Concert' at the KSPO DOME in Olympic Park, Seoul. After the opening performance, he expressed his sorrow, stating, "I came here with a heavy heart after hearing the news of the accident. I hope we no longer hear bad news like this." He encouraged the audience to take a moment to remember those who lost their lives and those grieving.

Similarly, singer Im Young-woong, who performed at the Gocheok Sky Dome, shared his condolences after his opening song. He said, "I stand before you today with a heavy heart. I feel deep sadness upon hearing that precious lives were lost in the plane crash, and I want to extend my heartfelt condolences to the victims and their families." He also expressed gratitude to those working tirelessly at the accident site and promised to deliver hope and comfort through his performance.

The band Jaurim also held a moment of silence during their concert 'MIDNIGHT EXPRESS' at the Jangchung Gymnasium in Seoul. After the show, they displayed a message on the screen, offering condolences to the deceased and wishing for a swift recovery for the injured.

In addition to live performances, artists preparing for comebacks have adjusted their promotional schedules to honor the victims. The special unit of SEVENTEEN, BSS, postponed their official photo uploads ahead of their single release 'TELEPARTY' on January 8, 2024, expressing their deep condolences.

Ive has also temporarily halted their promotional activities for their upcoming EP 'IVE EMPATHY,' set to release on February 3, 2024, stating that the promotional schedule originally planned for December 29 and 30 has been postponed in light of the tragedy.

The incident occurred on December 29 when Jeju Air flight 7C2216, which was en route from Bangkok, Thailand, to Muan International Airport, veered off the runway during landing and collided with an outer wall. Reports indicate that 179 individuals, including passengers and crew members, lost their lives, with only two crew members surviving. In response, the government has declared a national mourning period from December 29 to January 4, 2025.
