K-Pop and Trot Take Center Stage This Lunar New Year Holiday

As the long-awaited Lunar New Year holiday kicks off, the Korean entertainment industry is set to captivate audiences with a variety of special music programs. This year promises to deliver a lineup that appeals to both adults and children alike.

SBS will air a two-part special titled 'K-POP The Beginning: SMTOWN 30' to celebrate the 30th anniversary of SM Entertainment. The first part, airing on January 28, will explore the stories of legendary SM artists who sparked the K-Pop phenomenon, while the second part, set to be released on February 1, will delve into SM's unique musical world and future vision. This broadcast will also feature highlights from the recent 'SMTOWN LIVE 2025 [THE CULTURE, THE FUTURE] in SEOUL' concert, along with candid interviews and never-before-seen footage from various generations of artists.

MBC is bringing back the 'Gayo Daejeon,' which was postponed last year due to a tragic airline incident, with the 'Lunar New Year Special MBC Gayo Daejeon WANNABE' scheduled for January 29 and 30. This event will gather aspiring K-Pop stars to create a memorable experience for viewers. The show will be hosted by Yoona, Minho from SHINee, and Dohun from TO1, and will feature performances from top artists across generations, including aespa, ATEEZ, ENHYPEN, and Stray Kids.

KBS will present 'KBS Lunar New Year Special Trot Festival: THE COLOR' on January 29, showcasing the current and future landscape of K-Trot. This grand festival will feature vibrant performances that celebrate various colors, promising to be the largest trot festival on terrestrial television. Lee Chan-won will serve as the sole MC, with appearances from artists like Kim Yeon-ja, Jinseong, and Taemin.

Additionally, the concert film 'Lim Young-woong l I’m Hero: The Stadium' will air on TV Chosun on January 29. This film captures Lim Young-woong's historic first stadium concert at the Seoul World Cup Stadium, which attracted around 100,000 fans. The film has already broken records, becoming the highest-grossing concert film in history with over 350,000 viewers.

ENA will also air 'Jung Dong-won Special Concert: Christmas Total Mobilization' on January 29, featuring highlights from Jung Dong-won's sold-out year-end concerts over the past three years. This special will showcase his journey alongside his fans, including behind-the-scenes moments and performances that highlight his versatility as an artist.

With such a rich array of programming, this Lunar New Year holiday is set to be a celebration of music and culture that fans won't want to miss.
