Korean Rapper Gil Launches New YouTube Channel

Gil (길성준), the former member of the hip-hop duo Leessang, has announced the launch of a new YouTube channel. On May 24, he shared the news via his social media, stating, "Hello, subscribers of '빛나리 길성준.' This is Gil Seong-jun and the production team. As you all have commented, the algorithm gods have not been kind to us, and the prediction of 'it's fun but not going viral' has come true," referring to the low view counts on his previous content.

He continued, "Therefore, I am planning to start a new channel. I want to embark on this journey together with you from the beginning, so I will be holding a channel name contest!" He even hinted at the possibility of filming a date meal with fans to encourage their participation.

Gil also mentioned, "I will announce the new channel soon," adding the hashtags #알고리즘 and #예능신이여도와주소서 (meaning 'Please help us, entertainment gods').

Gil debuted in 2002 alongside rapper Gary as part of Leessang, which gained immense popularity with numerous hit songs. However, after Gil faced multiple DUI charges, their activities were severely impacted, leading to an effective disbandment. In 2022, on the 20th anniversary of Leessang, Gil hinted at a possible reunion, stating he was trying to start something positive. However, Gary later clarified that the group had officially disbanded, although Gil denied any rumors of discord between them.

In his personal life, Gil married his wife, Choi Bo-reum, who is ten years younger, in 2016. Their wedding was a private affair, consisting only of a family meal and marriage registration. The couple welcomed a son named Ha-eum, building a family together.

Last November, Gil transitioned into the world of YouTube with his channel '빛나리 길성준,' which currently has around 13,000 subscribers.
