Korean Celebrities Mourn Victims of Jeju Air Plane Crash

The entertainment industry in South Korea is expressing deep condolences following the tragic plane crash involving Jeju Air flight 7C2216 at Muan International Airport. The incident occurred on December 29, 2024, at 9:07 AM, when the aircraft was attempting to land and collided with the runway's outer wall. There were 181 individuals on board, including crew members and passengers, with only two crew members reported as survivors.
In light of this heartbreaking news, artists such as Sung Si-kyung (성시경) and Im Young-woong (임영웅) took moments during their performances to honor the victims. Sung Si-kyung held his '2024 Sung Si-kyung Year-End Concert' at the KSPO DOME in Songpa-gu, Seoul, where he shared his sorrow with fans and led a moment of silence for the victims. He expressed, "I came here with a heavy heart after hearing the news. I hope we no longer hear bad news like this. This concert is a promise to you all, and I will do my best. Let's take a moment to think of those who lost their lives and those grieving."
Similarly, Im Young-woong, during his 'Im Young-woong Recital' at Gocheok Sky Dome, conveyed his sadness after performing his opening song. He stated, "I stand before you today with a heavy heart. Hearing about the precious lives lost in the plane crash fills me with deep sorrow. I want to sincerely express my condolences to the victims and their families, and I am grateful to all those working hard in such a difficult situation."
Before the concert, the MC, Jung Sung-ho (정성호), also led the audience in a moment of silence for the victims.
Other public figures, including former announcer Jang Sung-kyu (장성규), travel YouTuber Pani Bottle (빠니보틀), and comedian Jo Se-ho (조세호), shared their grief on social media. Jang expressed disbelief and hoped for no further casualties, while Pani Bottle reflected on the tragedy as a frequent flyer, wishing for a swift resolution to the situation. Jo Se-ho conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
Comedian Kang Jae-jun (강재준) and Park Myung-soo (박명수) also shared their sorrow online, with Park posting a photo of chrysanthemums alongside a message of condolence. Group g.o.d member Park Jun-hyung (박준형) asked for prayers for the victims and their families, while singer and entertainer Ha Ha (하하) expressed his sadness and offered prayers for the grieving families.
In a show of respect, broadcasters have shifted to emergency news coverage, canceling major entertainment programs. YouTube content creators Kim Na-young (김나영) and Lee Young-ja (이영자) postponed their scheduled uploads to honor the victims, with Kim stating she was deeply shocked by the news and wanted to share a moment of collective mourning.
This tragic event has united the entertainment community in a shared expression of grief and support for those affected.
