Kiss of Life Withdraws from KCON LA 2025

Kiss of Life has officially announced their withdrawal from KCON LA 2025. On the morning of May 17, KCON USA released a statement via their official account, stating, "Unfortunately, after careful consideration and in-depth discussions, KCON and S2 Entertainment have mutually decided that Kiss of Life will no longer participate in KCON LA 2025." They expressed their sincere apologies to fans who were looking forward to the performance and requested understanding, assuring that they will strive to provide special and memorable experiences in the coming months.

While KCON USA confirmed that the decision was made in consultation with the group's agency, they did not disclose specific reasons for the withdrawal. However, many netizens speculated that the group's recent involvement in a racial controversy, where they were accused of mocking Black individuals, might have influenced this decision.

Previously, on April 2, Kiss of Life held a live broadcast to celebrate member Julie's birthday, during which they showcased a concept inspired by old-school hip-hop, particularly focusing on Black female rappers. This led to accusations of racial insensitivity, as international fans pointed out that the group's portrayal of Black speech was caricatured, and they used culturally sensitive hairstyles as mere accessories. Additionally, they were criticized for mocking naming conventions associated with Black culture by referring to themselves as 'Lil Taco.'

In response to the backlash, S2 Entertainment issued an apology on their official social media on April 4, acknowledging the use of stereotypes in the birthday content. On April 6, the members also shared handwritten letters in English on their social media, expressing their regret over the incident.
