Kim Young-hoon Declares Assets Worth Over 12 Billion Won Ahead of Labor Minister Confirmation

Kim Young-hoon, the nominee for the Minister of Employment and Labor, reported a total of 1.215 billion won in assets under his and his family's names. According to the confirmation request submitted on July 1, Kim's personal assets include an apartment in Yangjeong-dong, Busan valued at approximately 350 million won, a house in Masan, Changwon worth around 214 million won, and a 2006 Jaguar estimated at 4.3 million won, totaling about 1.034 billion won.

His mother declared assets of about 71 million won in savings and real estate in Masan, Changwon, amounting to a total of 148 million won. Additionally, his son, born in 2000, reported savings of around 32 million won.

Kim has a controversial past, having been fined 10 million won for leading an illegal railway union strike in 2006. During his tenure as the chair of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, he was sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for two years, for participating in several illegal protests in downtown Seoul.

In 1989, Kim was exempted from military service due to a diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis. His son completed his service as a sergeant in the Army, having been discharged in 2021.
