Kim Yong-bin's New Song 'Yesterday, You Were and Today, You Are' Debuts Strongly on Charts

On July 17, during the broadcast of 'Love Call Center - Seven Stars', Kim Yong-bin unveiled his new song '어제도 너였고 오늘도 너여서' (Yesterday, You Were and Today, You Are), a special reward for winning 'Mr. Trot 3', produced by Young-tak (영탁). The song quickly climbed to the top of the charts, debuting at number two in the trot genre on Melon, South Korea's largest music streaming platform, shortly after its release at 7 PM.
The track has also made its mark on the Melon 'Hot 100' chart, entering at 24th place after 30 days and 47th after 100 days. As of July 19, it has dropped to 27th place but remains notable as the only non-K-pop song in the top 30, amidst competition from popular K-pop acts like BLACKPINK and the soundtrack of the Hollywood animation 'K-Pop Demon Hunters'.
'어제도 너였고 오늘도 너여서' features a soothing piano melody that transitions into a medium-tempo arrangement, showcasing a blend of traditional ballad emotions with a pop ballad foundation. The collaboration between Young-tak and Ji Kwang-min (지광민) strikes a balance between commercial appeal and lyrical depth. The music video, produced by the creative group Johnny Bros (쟈니브로스), enhances the song's overall quality.
The heartfelt lyrics, such as 'No words or songs can fully express my feelings' and 'Tomorrow, you will still be the reason for my life', are beautifully complemented by Kim Yong-bin's refined vocal delivery, capturing the emotions that accumulate over time like a dramatic narrative.
Having dedicated himself to trot music since childhood, Kim Yong-bin has broadened his musical knowledge by exploring various genres, including dance, ballad, and classical music. This diverse background has enriched his interpretative skills and emotional sensitivity, showcasing his growth as an artist.
