Kim Sun-young to Produce Chekhov's 'The Seagull' for 10th Anniversary

Actress Kim Sun-young is set to produce a new adaptation of Anton Chekhov's classic play, 'The Seagull'. On December 18, her theater company, Nabe, announced that they will stage 'The Seagull' (adapted and directed by Lee Seung-won) as part of their 10th anniversary celebrations.
This modern reinterpretation of Chekhov's masterpiece will be set in contemporary Korea. Director Lee Seung-won, known for his work in black comedy films such as 'Communication and Lies', 'Happy Birthday', and 'Three Sisters', aims to enhance the original's comedic elements while sharply illuminating the complexities of life.
The cast features a talented lineup including Kim Yong-jun, Kim Yoon-joo, Park Ji-hoon, Kim Kwon-hoo, Nam Soo-hyun, Kim Ae-jin, Kim Kyung-deok, Park Da-mi, Kwon Yu-jin, Kim Sung-min, Son Chae-woo, and Kim Dong-ryul. They will explore themes of love, conflict, and distorted relationships, while also vividly portraying the desires and contradictions of each character.
Nabe has previously presented thought-provoking black comedies that dissect reality, and they are expected to faithfully capture the essence of Chekhov's realism in 'The Seagull'. Notably, Kim Sun-young, who has received acclaim for her authentic performances, is actively involved in the production and rehearsals, providing valuable insights despite her busy schedule.
Nabe has engaged audiences with various productions, including 'Moral Family', which tells a bizarrely twisted family story, 'Two Detectives', which addresses the infamous Jisunpa incident and the Sampoong Department Store collapse, 'Art is Dead', which reflects on modern loneliness through the death of an artist, 'Inbanggal', which reveals the stark realities of internet BJ lives, and 'Etude', which satirizes internal absurdities within the theater company.
'The Seagull', which confronts the complexities of human relationships and the ironies of life, will be performed at the Seondol Theater in Daehangno from January 16 to February 9, 2025. Tickets will be available for purchase starting today, December 18, through Interpark.
