Kim Soo-hyun Addresses Allegations Following Kim Sae-ron's Death
On March 31, 2025, actor Kim Soo-hyun held a press conference at the Stanford Hotel in Sangam-dong, Seoul, to address various allegations that have arisen following the death of actress Kim Sae-ron. During the event, Kim Soo-hyun expressed his feelings of fear and insecurity, stating, "I consider myself a coward. I have always been preoccupied with protecting what I have, unable to trust even the kindness directed towards me. I was constantly afraid of losing something, which made it difficult for me to stand here today."
He reflected on the possibility of having spoken out sooner, suggesting that it might have alleviated the suffering of his fans and colleagues who have supported him through this ordeal. "Every time our private lives were exposed, I thought about just speaking out and ending this hellish situation. But I hesitated, worried about the impact my decisions would have on those around me."
Kim Soo-hyun also addressed the past relationship he had with Kim Sae-ron, which he initially denied during the airing of their drama, 'Queen of Tears' (눈물의 여왕). He acknowledged that they dated for about a year before the drama aired, but he felt compelled to deny it at the time due to the pressures of being a leading actor. "I understand if people find it hard to believe what I say about our relationship now, but this is my only chance to share my side. I would appreciate it if you could listen to me just this once."
He elaborated on the challenges of being a public figure, stating, "I received an overwhelming amount of love as an actor, but I was once a person with very little. I had so much to protect, especially during the airing of 'Queen of Tears.' I often wondered what would happen if I acknowledged my past relationship. I always chose the path of the star Kim Soo-hyun over the human Kim Soo-hyun."
The actor admitted to living in fear, concerned that the choices he made to protect his public image could ultimately backfire. However, he concluded, "If I were to go back to the time when 'Queen of Tears' was airing, I would make the same choices again."
Since Kim Sae-ron's passing on February 16, 2025, Kim Soo-hyun has faced various allegations, including claims of a relationship with a minor and issues related to debt repayment. The family of Kim Sae-ron has alleged that she was in a relationship with Kim Soo-hyun for about six years, starting when she was a minor. Kim Soo-hyun's representatives have previously denied these claims, stating that their relationship began only after she turned 18, from the summer of 2019 to the fall of 2020. They also refuted claims that Kim Soo-hyun ignored Kim Sae-ron's financial troubles.
In response to Kim Soo-hyun's statements, Kim Sae-ron's family has released mobile messages, direct messages, and an unreleased letter from 2016, which they claim serve as evidence of their relationship. They expressed their intention to put an end to the controversy by presenting this evidence.
