Kim Soo-chan Opens Up About Family Issues on 'Current King of Masked Singers 2'

On January 21, during the broadcast of MBN's 'Current King of Masked Singers 2' (현역가왕2), singer Kim Soo-chan candidly discussed personal family matters before his performance in the second round of the third preliminary match. In an interview with the production team, he expressed, "The main reason I joined 'Current King of Masked Singers 2' is that it will serve as a significant stepping stone in my journey to becoming a long-loved artist, Kim Soo-chan. Honestly, that’s the only reason I decided to take on this challenge."

Later, while conversing with his manager at their accommodation, the manager mentioned, "Some people have said that Kim Soo-chan brought up family issues to participate in 'Current King of Masked Singers 2.'" Kim Soo-chan responded, "That’s true." He further revealed, "Who would willingly expose such shameful family matters? I honestly didn’t want to participate in 'Current King of Masked Singers' because of that."

Additionally, Kim Soo-chan addressed the recent controversy surrounding his mother’s revelations about her biological father on a show. He stated, "I didn’t even know my mom was going to appear on the show until the day before." He described her as being extremely nervous and uncharacteristically at a loss for words, despite usually being articulate. After the broadcast, he clarified on a fan cafe that the anonymous singer was indeed him.

Reflecting on the situation, he noted, "At one point, other singers' names were mentioned, leading to misunderstandings in the comments. I felt I needed to clarify quickly to prevent any harm to others." He concluded by sharing, "Life has its ups and downs. I’ve faced my share of difficulties and twists, but I believe that good days will come in time. I want to convey this sentiment through my song, 'Kongjjak Life' (쿵짝인생)," which earned him a score of 296 out of 360 from the celebrity judging panel.
