Kim Nam-gil Expresses Disappointment Over Not Winning Best Couple Award at SBS Drama Awards

On December 21, the 2024 SBS Drama Awards took place at the SBS Prism Tower in Sangam-dong, Seoul, hosted by Shin Dong-yup, Kim Hye-yoon, and Kim Ji-yeon (Bona). Actor Kim Nam-gil received the Best Actor award in the seasonal drama category for his role in '열혈사제2' (The Fiery Priest 2). However, upon accepting the award, he expressed his disappointment, stating, "To be honest, there was another award I really wanted. I was sincerely hoping for the Best Couple award, as it would have been a great opportunity to officially acknowledge my relationship with Kim Sung-kyu."

Kim shared a light-hearted anecdote, saying, "He's such a generous friend that I have him saved as 'Wife' in my phone. I thought it would be recognized officially by SBS, so it's truly unfortunate." He went on to praise the hard work of the staff, noting, "'The Fiery Priest' is a project that was filmed under time constraints, but the staff worked tirelessly to maintain the quality of the show. Thanks to their efforts, we have been able to avoid any major issues during the broadcast. I am always grateful to everyone."

He acknowledged the pressure of following up on a successful first season, saying, "We didn't initially plan for this to be a series, but the success of the first season brought a lot of pressure. The writers and directors persevered through it all, and it has been a joy to work alongside such talented actors. The set of 'The Fiery Priest' has always been a happy place for us, and your performances have brought love and joy to everyone involved."

Kim concluded by expressing gratitude to the viewers, saying, "While everyone may have their regrets about the work, I want to thank you for bringing a new genre with 'The Fiery Priest.'
