Kim Nam-gil and Kim Young-kwang Discuss Gun Violence Concerns Amid Tragic Incident

In a shocking incident in Incheon, a father fatally shot his son with a homemade firearm. This tragedy has sparked concerns about gun violence, which actor Kim Nam-gil addressed recently.
Kim Nam-gil and Kim Young-kwang, stars of the upcoming Netflix series 'Trigger' (트리거), featured in a photoshoot for Harper's Bazaar Korea. The two actors showcased their charisma in stylish black outfits while posing against a wall and table.
'Trigger' is an action thriller that explores the consequences of illegal firearms being delivered in a society plagued by gun violence. The story follows two men who each have their reasons for picking up a gun.
Kim Nam-gil plays 'Lee Do,' a police officer and former military sniper. When asked about preparing for his action role, he shared, "There’s a unique emotional depth to Lee Do’s character in extreme situations. It’s not just about a good person overpowering a bad one; it’s about conveying the message that picking up a gun is inherently wrong." Kim Young-kwang, who portrays the mysterious ally 'Moon Baek,' expressed his excitement about his role, stating, "I’m grateful to have been chosen for this character. It feels rewarding to act in a role I truly connect with."
When discussing the psychological triggers explored in the series, Kim Nam-gil noted, "In the crime thriller genre, we used to see evidence gathered through direct murder. Nowadays, crimes like online gaslighting and grooming, which lead individuals to take their own lives, are more common. The presence of guns in our story prompts reflection on our society." Kim Young-kwang added, "The dilemma of whether to act or not, whether to shoot or not, is fascinating. The premise of 'what if' is vividly portrayed in this series."
When asked about their current dedication as actors, Kim Young-kwang mentioned, "It may seem trivial, but I prioritize maintaining my best condition by going to bed at 10 PM and waking up early. I dislike showing up tired or unable to give my best effort." Kim Nam-gil reflected on his past, saying, "I used to plan my career for the next ten years, but life doesn’t always go as planned. I believe that if I stay consistent and dedicated each day, my acting will evolve with my age."
The Netflix series 'Trigger' is set to premiere on July 25. The photoshoot and interview with Kim Nam-gil and Kim Young-kwang will be featured in the August 2025 issue of Harper's Bazaar.
