Kim Min-seok Reflects on Responsibilities After National Assembly Hearing

Kim Min-seok, the nominee for Prime Minister, took a moment to step out for dinner while awaiting the continuation of his confirmation hearing at the National Assembly on June 25. After the hearing, he expressed his gratitude on Facebook, stating, "I have fulfilled my public responsibilities despite the hardships of life, but I apologize for any shortcomings that may not meet the expectations of the public."

The confirmation hearing, which took place over two days from June 24 to 25, was interrupted on the afternoon of the 25th when members of the opposition party, People Power Party, refused to return, citing inadequate document submissions by Kim. As a result, the hearing was automatically adjourned at midnight. Kim responded, saying, "While the opposition raised concerns about document provision, I had already committed to supplying the requested materials. It seems that the burden of apologizing for the false claim regarding the '6 billion won cash in a wardrobe' made by Representative Joo Jin-woo weighed heavily on them."

Kim described the hearing as a moment of realizing the significant responsibility he bears as the first Prime Minister nominee of the Lee Jae-myung administration. He reaffirmed his determination to become a key figure in overcoming the current economic crisis and ushering in a new era for South Korea.

Reflecting on his 18 years in the political wilderness, he stated, "I have learned to fear and appreciate the heavens and the people with all my being. If confirmed, I will make the judgment of the people and the heavens my guiding pillars."

He also mentioned that the President would deliver a policy speech at the National Assembly that day, explaining a supplementary budget plan to address a potential economic crisis akin to the second IMF. He urged cooperation from the National Assembly and support from the public. "Today, I am also present in the National Assembly as a member. I will patiently wait for the remaining time until the Assembly's confirmation and prepare to work," he added.
