Kim Jun-ho Surprises Future Mother-in-Law with Birthday Bash on 'My Ugly Duckling'

In the latest episode of SBS's variety show My Ugly Duckling (미운 우리 새끼), aired on May 18, Kim Jun-ho made a heartfelt effort to win over his future mother-in-law by organizing a surprise birthday party. Arriving in a truck at Donghae, he expressed his excitement, saying, "I’ve prepared a lot of gifts for my mother-in-law today. Who else would rent a truck just to bring gifts?" When the truck driver asked if this was his first time coming down, Kim Jun-ho replied, "It's my first time alone. I was supposed to come with my girlfriend, but she couldn't make it due to her schedule."

During the journey, he called his girlfriend, Kim Ji-min, to share his feelings about traveling to Donghae without her. She asked how it felt to go alone, to which he admitted, "It's awkward and nerve-wracking." Kim Ji-min reassured him, saying, "If I were in your shoes, I would feel really awkward going alone to meet my mother-in-law. I truly appreciate what you're doing today; it feels like the best gift before our wedding."

Feeling pleased, Kim Jun-ho asked if this gesture was better than what he usually does for her, and she enthusiastically replied, "It's way better! A thousand times better!"

Upon reaching his future mother-in-law's house, Kim Jun-ho teamed up with Kim Ji-min's brother, his future brother-in-law, to prepare for the birthday celebration. While preparing, he requested to be called 'brother-in-law,' but the future brother-in-law insisted on calling him 'older brother' since they weren't married yet.

He expressed his disappointment, saying, "I found out about my sister's wedding through an article. I saw on My Ugly Duckling that the date is July 13. My siblings knew, but I didn’t!" Kim Jun-ho quickly apologized, suggesting they create a family chat group to share important news moving forward. However, the future brother-in-law replied, "That can wait until after the wedding." Kim Jun-ho humorously suggested, "If you find it hard to call me brother-in-law, how about calling me 'uncle-in-law'?"

The future brother-in-law also reminisced about Kim Jun-ho's proposal on the show, saying, "I cried so much during that episode. But thinking back, I feel sorry for you because you have to deal with Ji-min's personality for life!" This brought laughter to the group. Kim Jun-ho responded, "At least one person in Korea knows my struggle!" The future brother-in-law assured him, "I’ll be on your side."

In addition to the birthday preparations, Kim Jun-ho surprised his future mother-in-law with an electronic drum set, as she recently started learning to play drums, and showcased a whole barbecue for the party. He even planned a final surprise by hiding inside a giant gift box.
