Kim Jaejoong Attends 60th Anniversary of Korea-Japan Diplomatic Relations

On June 19, singer Kim Jaejoong (김재중), formerly of the boy group TVXQ (동방신기), attended the 60th anniversary celebration of Korea-Japan diplomatic normalization in Tokyo. He was accompanied by Hitomi and Mei, Japanese members of the girl group Seimaineim (세이마이네임), which he produces.
In a speech released by his agency on June 20, Kim remarked, "The number 60 symbolizes the completion of a cycle in Eastern culture. This moment is precious as we reflect on the paths our two nations have taken and prepare for a new future." He further emphasized, "Music and culture serve as strong bridges connecting people's hearts across languages and borders. I hope both countries can deeply understand and respect each other's cultures, especially as the younger generation communicates and nurtures their dreams together for tomorrow."
TVXQ, which debuted in 2003 with the song 'Hug' (허그), is a pivotal K-pop group in discussions of Korea-Japan exchanges. Their entry into the Japanese market in 2005 significantly broadened the age demographic of Hallyu fans to include those in their teens and twenties. Despite the departure of members Park Yoochun (박유천) and Kim Junsu (김준수) in 2009, Kim Jaejoong has continued to enjoy immense popularity in Japan.
The event, hosted by the Korean Embassy in Japan, attracted significant attention, with former and current Japanese Prime Ministers, including Shigeru Ishiba (이시바 시게루), in attendance, alongside over 800 dignitaries from both the political and cultural sectors of Korea and Japan.
